PROGRAM FOR RAPED AND PREGNANT GIRLS — Shelter

In Peru, there is a silent pain: the alarming rates of rape of girls and adolescents. This scourge results not only in psychological and physical trauma, but also in pregnancies and academic underachievement.

The shelter unites efforts to care for this population, who take on the new role of motherhood, living and accepting an imposed motherhood. This represents a serious social problem and the risk of generating further violence if these young mothers do not receive the basic and specialized care they require. Ironically, they are so numerous, yet so neglected by state policies. We want to create an opportunity for these young mothers to recover and reintegrate into a better future.

We provide comprehensive care to young mothers and children who are victims of sexual and psychological violence. We offer them a home, food, clothing, education, medical and psychological assistance, and more. They are offered a complete education at both the school and vocational levels.

You will be able to:

  • Help with baby care.
  • Support with homework.
  • Participate in recreational activities and games.
  • Participate in educational and cultural activities.
  • Help feed very young children during mealtimes.
  • Give English and/or computer lessons.
  • If you have a special skill you'd like to share, we can coordinate.
  • The support schedule is 5 hours per day. If you wish, you can accumulate hours and have more days free for tourist activities.
